ナップスター上陸。日本の音楽配信サイト
「ナップスターが定額制音楽配信スタート。料金は月額1,280円から」(InternetWatchImpress10/03)
ナップスタージャパンは、音楽配信サービス「ナップスター」を10月3日に開始する。定額制プラン「Napster Basic」の料金は月額1,280円、ポータブルプレーヤーへの転送も定額範囲内の「Napster To Go」は月額1,980円。
定額でよくレーベルとの合意が取れたなと思うが、定額対象とそうでないカテゴリーがあり、楽曲の９割は洋楽とのこと。記事からは分からないが、定額制の音楽配信サービス「ナップスター」速攻レポートを見ると、定額の聞き放題で手に入れた楽曲は会員をやめたら聞けなくなるらしい。これは日本音楽著作権協会（JASRAC）が有期限ダウンロードに対して新たに割安の使用料を設けた（CNET Japan 2006/6/2）ことで実現したのだろうか。
僕はヒットチャートにそれほど興味ないので、未知のアーチストであればFriejyuなんかで聞けるインディーなフリー楽曲でも十分だったりする。プロと遜色ない素人も世界には山ほどいる。でも急な宴会にカラオケ用の楽曲がダウンロードできたらいいなと思うけど、頻度が低いんで今のところ会員になる予定はない。業界をリードしているItunesMusicStoreとか、一足早く定額でストリーミングサービスをやってるReal Musicやlisten.comのリッスンジャパンなど、海外サービスに圧倒されてる感がある。
機器メーカはというと、パイオニア、ソニー、ビクター、オンキョー、シャープなどが、エニーミュージックを設立し、各社が販売するオーディオ機器を使うと、パソコン無しでダウンロードできるらしいが売れてねーだろうな。かと思えば、最近はオンキョーが高音質を売りにしたe-onkyo music storeを始めた。大手レコード会社は共同でmoraを立ち上げ、YahooJapanのミュージックダウンロードはmoraを使っている。ソニーミュージックやエイベクッスは独自でも提供している。USENはongenを立ち上げ、楽天ミュージックダウンロードはongenを使っている。リッスンジャパンに出資しているオリコンはOricon Styleも始めている。ポータルやプロバイダーのNTTレゾナントやNiftyもやってる模様。そしてCD販売業であるタワーレコードがそれに加わったことが面白い。
破産申請していた米国のタワーレコードが清算会社への売却が決まり、廃業になりそうだ（デイリー10月7日）が、ナップスターを日本で展開するのが日本のタワーレコードで、アメリカのタワーレコードからは独立しているので関係ないそうだ。「100万曲を聴き放題に--タワーレコードがナップスターと組んだ理由」(CNET Japan)によれば、5年後の音楽市場についてタワーレコード社長伏谷氏は、情熱を語る。
我々は時流に乗って音楽配信サービスを始めるわけではまったくなくて、店舗とウェブの双方を使って、タワーレコードの顧客にさらに楽しいことを経験してもらおうと思っています。タワーレコードの店長や店員は、たとえ音楽市場の規模が100億円に縮小したとしてもレコード店をやっているような音楽好きばかりなんです。音楽配信サービスを手がけるほかの企業は、本当にそんな状況になっても音楽を売り続けるのかといえば疑問です。
僕がCDショップに求めるのは音楽オタクによるレコメンドである。今回いろんなサイトのトップページを見て回ったが、同じようなチャートに「トップアーチスト」とか「新譜」とか並べている。そんな情報は個人的にはいらない。大量生産のレコードでなくシビアなレコメンドが欲しい。タワーレコードがやるナップスターにはそのへんを期待する。現状では音楽配信とCD販売が独立しており、ナップスターに行けば音楽配信だけで、タワーレコードのサイトに行けばCD販売だけであり、この曲はCDを買いこの曲はダウンロードで買おうという選択が、同一サイトからはできないのは問題だと思う。
